Streamers are often told to post clips on other platforms like YouTube, Tik Tok, IG, X etc. They are told it’s a growth engine, which will compound and have massive payoffs. The truth is that this cross platform hack doesn’t really convert for the streamer. It converts into viewers for the platform. In other words, all of that hard work goes to benefit Twitch or Kick and not you.

Inefficiency Explained

This cross-posting funnel is full of leaks. The goal of every platform is to keep users on said platform. These algorithms are programmed to keep people flipping to the next video. So, you have to hope the algorithm puts your videos in consistent rotation otherwise you will be forgotten. You might get people to subscribe to you on those platforms, which isn’t bad. However, key barriers remain: What if they don’t watch streams? What if they’re already on their preferred platform? This is a heavy lift.

Let’s say we successfully get a portion of off-platform viewers to check out your stream. Unless you are live 24/7, they are going to find your channel page and this is where Twitch or Kick works to get them off your page as fast as possible and onto a live streamer.

The Platforms Work Against You

Recently in a r/Twitch thread a streamer named ca1am1ty_ wanted a review of his channel trailer. We’re always looking for streamers to assist and this is what we found.

The channel was initially blitzed by ads. Once the ads concluded, I was shown a different live streamer instead of the original streamer’s trailer. It was so effective that, while grabbing screenshots, I became distracted and clicked on the suggested stream. If you are offline, the streaming platform will actively funnel viewers to other live streamers to capture those viewers for themselves

The point here isn’t to stop posting on other platforms. I’m not even trying to debunk the idea that cross posting works. It does! It is hard labor. Clipping and editing is a common complaint among streamers. The reality is that sufficient cross-platform creation is almost a fulltime job within itself. It’s a lot of work and you have to believe it pays off in the long run. It definitely pays off for the streaming platforms but whether it works for you is another question.

Our Recommendation

If you are a time-crunched streamer that hates the idea of clipping, we recommend you multi-stream. Every platform that you post on has go-live features. This caters directly to the portion of the audience that enjoys livestreams. It also works in your favor by capturing that follow or sub directly. Multi-streaming diversifies your audience, so if any issues happen on one streaming platform then you will not lose all of your hard work. Figuring out how to multi-stream has a learning curve, but you only have to figure it out once! Instead of chopping your stream to bits, leverage your stream to reach more people by multi-streaming!
